Safety Our parish is participating in a personal safety and abuse prevention education program for upper grade children sponsored by the Office of Child Advocacy, the Office of Religious Education and the Catholic Schools Office. Soon, our 7th and 8th grade classes will begin using the “Keeping children Safe” Child Abuse Prevention Program-a program designed to address safety issues related to the needs of adolescents in these age categories. The topics will include: discerning between healthy and harmful relationships, showing respect, acting responsibly, sexual harassment and abusive relationships, personal safety, and strategies and resources available to stay out of danger in relationships and maintain personal safety. In the coming months, you will receive a letter that provides information about the lessons and describe how you can help your child learn and practice safety rules taught in the classroom lessons. Young people learn more about safety and are more likely to follow safety guidelines when they have multiple opportunities to practice and talk about safety with their parents and family. Please take the time to discuss the lessons at home. Your child learns more from you than any one else! We will be having a family education evening on Sunday January 13th in the Georgetown Church Hall beginning at 7 PM. At this time you will learn more about the program look at the curriculum and see the film we will use as part of lesson three (“No Excuses: Sexual Harassment”) At the Family Education night, you will also learn how you can help to teach and reinforce these safety guidelines. If you have any questions, please contact Mary Williams or Tricia Hanlon. Schedule
