Safety Our parish is participating in a personal safety and abuse prevention education program for lower grade children sponsored by the Office of Child Advocacy, the Office of Religious Education and the Catholic Schools Office. In January our K, 1, 2, 3 grade classes will begin using the Archdioceses of Boston “Keeping Children Safe” Child Abuse Prevention Program-a program designed to address safety issues related to the needs of children in these age categories. The topics will cover issues related to bicycles and helmets, and gun safety. It also includes personal safety with the “touching rule.” And finally we cover how to deal with bullies. These lessons help to empower children to KNOW what to do in any situation. Children of this age need constant reminders of these rules from everyone who has contact with them. After each lesson, you will receive a letter that provides information about the lesson, what your child learned and how you can help your child learn and practice the safety rules taught in the classroom lessons. Children learn more about safety and are more likely to follow safety rules when they have multiple opportunities to practice and talk about safety with their parents and family. We’ like to encourage you to help your child learn and practice safety rules We will be having a family education evening on Sunday January 13th in the Georgetown Church Hall beginning at 7 PM. At this time you will learn more about the program and look at the flash cards. At the Family Education night you will also learn how to help teach your child about the safety rules. If you have any questions, please contact Mary Williams or Tricia Hanlon. Schedules |
